Back by popular demand, this week’s game of the week is SHOO BUG!  If you haven’t played Shoo Bug, you can find it on Soggy Swamp bottom.   Use the bug smacker to annihilate hordes of bugs coming your way. Ants, beetles, cockroaches and more are all fair game.  The faster you squish the bug the more points you get… the more points you get, the larger the stack of coins are at the end.

Friday/Sunday Parties! - Back to School & Rexxy's Rally!

GOTW - Dance Party! (TDR's Favorite)

wOOt WooT! Let’s get on down! We’ve been having some rocking parties recently on Webosaurs and they’re only going to keep coming. To celebrate we’re breaking out a classic for the Game of the Week, DANCE PARTY! Which is also MY FAVORITE GAME!

Dance Party is located at Tonto Plateau and you can play by yourself or with a partner. It’s an all-time favorite on Webosaurs so if you’ve never played you’re bound to love it. Weekend Action - Who is WackyMo? + WackyMo Meetings!

Hot! Hot! HOT!!!

Hey gang, it’s time to get pumped for the weekend! Who is this WackyMO character? Where does he come from? Why is he coming to the Island? I don’t know, but he seems pretty silly to be coming to the Island when we all thought we were in serious danger from villain number one (SPIKE). I guess we don’t have much to worry about because WackyMO is on the Island for fun and games!

Last week WackyMO gave out some memberships, but he didn’t say much… This weekend WackyMO will speak and hopefully tell us why he’s come to the Island… That AND he’s going to give away a couple of excellent prizes (possible memberships included!). He’ll be visiting the Island on four separate occasions and he’ll be moving all around. Make sure to use your Mod button to find him!

Pterry Protects Party : TODAY!

TDR - Since I haven't been posting for ages, I won't even be posting in the next two weeks 'cause i'm going on Vacation/Holiday. Sorry for the sad and bad news. Moving on:

Okay, let’s try this again! Since Spike attacked our servers last weekend and we could not have our party we’re going to try to have it again this weekend and I’m sure Pterry won’t be stopped twice in a row! In case you missed the update yesterday, Pterry leaked some information to this blog… he’s completed work on some spy gear that we plan to use to stop Spike from taking over our Island. I’m pretty sure Spike was trying to stop Pterry from releasing this information last week, but like I said, Pterry won’t be stopped twice in a row! I’m really excited to see how Pterry plans on using this exclusive equipment to stop Spike and I’m sure he’ll give us some information about it this weekend. Of course, everyone who comes to the party will receive this Okvango dummy to practice their aim. I can’t wait to finally hear what Pterry has to say! See you on the Island!

Weekend Action – Pterry Protects!

Whoa! Pterry getting his practice on!

Party time? Battle time? I’m not exactly sure what’s going to happen to Webosaurs Island, but Pterry will be coming to the Island on Sunday with what he says is some very exciting news. Pterry sent me a message this morning to tell me that we don’t need to worry quite as much about defeating Spike and Okvango because the Webosaurs have come up with some sort of solution. Pterry didn’t exactly seem happy, but he did seem quite relieved to say that the Webosaurs finally have a plan in place to defeat that EVIL ANKY. Pterry also told me that everyone that comes to the party will receive this Okvango Practice Dummy! Make sure you come to the Gushing Geyser on Sunday to receive your dummy and to hear Pterry’s plans about how to defeat Spike and Okvango!

He came just to see what the updates were since last October. He came to pay a final visit to old Webo 1.0 and say hello to new and renued, Webo 2.0! Hope to see him on the island!

That’s right it’s time for the Game of the Week. FINALLY I am back in charge of selecting the Game of the Week and since I get to choose this week instead of Moon I am choosing one of my favorites, INSECTRIS… I’m pretty sure that I’ll make the leader board this week because I’ll be playing a lot! I’ve always been a pretty mathematical thinker and Geometry was always one of my favorite classes so don’t feel bad if you can’t beat my score!

Insectris is located in the Forest Floor… Head there as soon as you can and start earning major COINAGE! Keep an eye out for me because I’ll probably either coming or going! See you on the Island!

GOTW - Spot Spike!

Can you SPOT SPIKE?

Hey gang, we’ve got a little different Game of the Week this week and if you participate you’ll be helping out Team Webosaurs big time… It’s come to our attention that Spike’s activity has been picking up more and more recently. This is not good news, we know he’s been planning something evil and plotting to take over the Island for a long time… We’ve just always thought it would never happen, but based on the fact that the Webosaurs have been hiding and planning for the last couple of months and the fact that Spike is moving around the Island more and more makes me think that something big is about to go down!

Here’s where you come in… Spike has been cruising around the Jurassic Server recently and I guess that he’s been taking notes and planning for some type of attack. What we need you dinos to do is snap screen shots of Spike (limit one per landscape) when you see him. If you can, post them as comments on this post and whoever gets the most spy shots will win a special PRIZE. Good luck and don’t let Spike snag you if he sees you! Hopefully this will help us defeat Spike before he even gets started!

Weekly Dino Fact - Megatherium!

Megatherium! That looks MEGA!

Hey dinos, this week’s Weekly Dino Fact is ALL ME! I went to a REALLY cool, REALLY excellent museum last Sunday while I was avoiding the Island because you-know-who was there. It was a museum of Natural Sciences and they had some GREAT dinosaur fossils! Including my new favorite Megatherium!

Okay, okay I know that Megatherium is from the Ice Age and not technically a dinosaur, BUT the idea of this beast is just AWESOME. So sloths are already super cool and so CUTE, can you imagine one that is slightly larger than an African Elephant??? Megatherium primarily walked on all fours, but fossilized footprints show that it was capable of standing on two feet to reach high limbs for food. When Megatherium did this it was 20 feet tall!! Imagine for a moment that you were walking through the forest and you heard a crashing coming through the trees and all of a sudden you were face to face with a sloth the size of a house!! What would you do?

The rest of the museum was great… some excellent dino fossils and other animal exhibits, including some really cool animals from other parts of the world that I didn’t even know existed. There was one thing that was SERIOUSLY disturbing and I hope it wasn’t a sign…

Even as I was trying to avoid him, I couldn’t get away from him, he’s haunting me! Seriously, what a bad dude, we’ve got to get rid of him. What do you think about that creepy Spike in the background? And what do you think about Megatherium? See you on the Island!

Weekly Dino Fact - Oxyaena - Eocene Predator

Half Leopard/Half Hyena?

This Week’s Weekly Dino Fact was asked again by Webosaurs resident scholar Irvine! Irvine asked, “How did Oxyaena catch it’s prey?” Very interesting question indeed! Let’s dive right in.

The Oxyaena was a creodont mammal that is now extinct, the Oxyaena existed in the very latest portion of the Paleocene and into the early Eocene. Oxyaena technically means “Sharp Hyena,” but these guys were nothing like our modern day Hyenas. For starters they were much smaller, these little guys were only about 3 feet (1 meter) long and had very flexible, cat-like bodies. Although there is nothing like them roaming the Earth today, they most resemble something like a cross between a Lynx and a Wolverine. The main thing that made them so different than cats was that they walked on the whole surface of the soles of their feet unlike cats who walk on only their toes. But I’m getting carried away, back to Irvine’s question; how did the Oxyaena hunt? What do you think?

The Oxyaena hunted in trees! It’s hard to imagine a tiny Hyena hunting in the branches of giant conifers during the Eocene, but that is exactly what they were doing! It’s incredible that they were nimble enough to do this while at the same time walking on the whole surface of their feet, not an easy task. Almost all of the Oxyaena fossils that have been recovered have been found in Colorado, so if you’re ever in the Centennial State, make sure you keep one eye in the tree branches to keep a lookout for Oxyaenas! Sunday is going to be a very different kind of day… I sense a dark gloom being cast over Webosaurs Island. I always get a bad feeling when a certain someone is lurking around… Anyway, for better or worse SPIKE will be coming back to Webosaurs Island this Sunday at 14:00 WST. As usual, I’m not sure what he wants… It’s been so long since we’ve seen him, maybe he’s changed his tune and is in the mood for a friendly visit? Who knows, one thing’s for sure, I won’t be anywhere near Webosaurs Island when that guy is around. He smells kind of bad, doesn’t he? If you MUST see Spike make sure you go to Sub-Alpine Forest at 14:00 WST!

Weekly Enviromental Fact - (not Moon) The Mesozoic Moon

Is that Moon?

You may look up at the sky at the full moon and not realize that it looked different to the dinosaurs of the Mesozoic Era.  There is scientific proof that the moon is slowly moving away from the earth.  It apparently is moving away from the earth at the rate of 1.5 inches per year.  (The distance was closer by approximately 1.5 inches time 65+ million years)  When the earth/moon system was formed 4.4 billion years ago, the moon was probably only about 14000 miles away from the earths surface, compare this to the 238,000 miles separation today.

Not only the view would be different but the lunar cycles and tides would be too.  The moon was closer to the earth would mean less distance to travel around the earth as well.  There would be multiple Full Moons a month.
Can you imagine how large the moon must have looked?  I bet it was incredible.

TDR's Daily Dino Facts! Muttaburrasaurus!

Muttaburrasaurus is known from one partial skeleton found at Muttaburra, Queensland, Australia. Muttaburrasaurus was very similar to Iguanodon, being a large four-legged herbivore that was capable of rearing onto two legs. Like Iguanodon it had a pronounced claw on the thumb while the three middle fingers were joined together into a hoof-like pad.

Its jaws were very powerful and equipped with shearing teeth which were probably an adaptation for eating tough vegetation such as cycads. These were common in this part of Australia at the time. Muttaburrasaurus also had an enlarged hollow upward-bulging muzzle, that might have been used to produce distinctive calls or for display purposes. However, as no fossilised nasal tissue has been found, this remains conjectural.
